Today it is very common for us to communicate by mail. If someone you know needs some information, we will probably send it to them by email. And if this person needs a copy of a document, we will send it to him/her as a digital attachment to the e-mail we will send him/her. This is a quick and easy way to share information.
However, there are times when what we want to share is too big and our email service does not allow us to send it. This file can be a video or simply a pdf or word format that weighs too much. To solve this problem, today we have several platforms that will help us share the file we want to send.
File transfer platforms
1. Google Drive
Google Drive is one of the most used platforms. You can usually use it directly when you’re trying to attach a file that’s too large to an email you want to send through Gmail. Gmail itself will show you a message indicating that the file is too heavy and will be shared via Google Drive.
Google Drive has many advantages because nowadays Gmail accounts are very used. In addition, with Google Drive you can share information of up to 15 Gb without paying anything. If you hire the paid version, you will be able to transfer even 5 Tb files.
You must register on this platform in order to use it. The steps to transfer files through this platform are as simple as selecting the files you want to send, selecting the contacts to whom you want to send the files or generating a link to share and finally, validating the transfer.
A not so good aspect of Transfernow is that, in its free version, it only allows you to send files of up to 4 Gb.
Another platform for hosting and sharing files in the cloud. The biggest advantage of WeTransfer is that you don’t need to register to use it. You can upload the files you want to share and select the people you want to send those files to.
In addition, you can generate a link to access the files you have uploaded to the platform.
You can send as many files as you want, but the maximum weight of each file is only 2 Gb.
Another of the best known platforms. If you are a student, probably some teacher has shared resources of his class through Dropbox. With Dropbox you can share files with users of any device by generating a link to what you have uploaded to the platform. The link can be shared through different media, including social networks.
Don’t worry, the people with whom you want to share the information don’t need to have an account in Dropbox to have access to what you have shared.
One advantage of Dropbox is that it is very easy to keep the information organized once you have uploaded it to the platform.
Terashare is the most useful platform if the file we want to send is very large. With the free version of Terashare you can send files of any size. There is no maximum file size.
What makes Terashare different is that it requires you to install an application to use it. One of the biggest advantages of this platform is that the people you send the files to can start downloading them, even if you haven’t finished uploading them yet.
It is Microsoft’s cloud storage platform. It works similarly to Google Drive. You can share up to 15 Gb with your contacts.
With MailBigFile you can share up to five files at once. In its free version, you can share files with a maximum size of 2 Gb. It is a fairly simple platform to use. However, its weakest point is that the information you share is not encrypted in the free version.
We have already mentioned a lot of options that you can take into consideration when sending a file that is too big. Choose the one that best suits your needs. It is worth mentioning that all the platforms we have listed are quite easy to use and have free versions.
Have you ever used a cloud storage platform? Which one was it? What kind of files did you share? Which platform do you recommend?
